ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Employees of the Department of Applied Computer Science and the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, CM UMK received a grant from the National Center for Research and Development for the implementation of the project “Expert system supporting physicians in ventilator control“. They will conduct it in cooperation with the anesthesiology and intensive care unit of the hospital in Grudziądz.

On behalf of UMK, the project is co-created by: dr hab. Rafał Adamczak, prof. UMK, prof. dr hab. Oleksandr Sokolov, M.Sc. Michał Joachimiak, dr hab. Krzysztof Grąbczewski and dr Marek Grochowski from the Department of Applied Computer Science and dr hab. Katarzyna Sierakowska, prof. UMK and Dr. Michalina Kołodziejczak from the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, CM UMK.

The aim of the project is to create an expert system based on artificial intelligence algorithms that, based on data about the state of real-time patient data from the ventilator, cardiac monitor and blood gas analyzer, as well as test results can determine the ventilator setting values such as pressure, volume, flow, and rate.

In the NCBiR program “Support for homonymous hospitals in the fight against the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection and in the treatment of COVID-19”, scientists received funding in the amount of PLN 2.6 million. The project will run until February 2022.
